News & Announcements Week of 11/17/24
Thanksgiving Potluck: Thanks to everyone that celebrated Thanksgiving with us last Sunday. A special thanks to Tracee for organizing this annual event and everyone that helped and participated.
Hope Letters: There will be a brief meeting today (11/17) following worship for those that are writing letters.
Advent & Christmas Planning Meeting: A small group will be meeting on Monday, November 18th at 5:30 pm (at the church) to plan worship and events for the Advent and Christmas season. All are welcome! Soup will be provided.
Financial Secretary: A big thank you to June for her many years of dedicated service as our financial secretary. We appreciate her hard work and commitment to our church. We also thank Chuck Bendig for volunteering to take over this important role.
Adopt-A-Family: This year we are adopting a Mom and her 2 daughters for the holidays. They are currently living with the mom’s brother. They could use gift cards to Dollar General, Walmart or gas cards. They are fine on food and cleaners. Their wishes are posted on the wall. All donations need to be at the church no later than December 15. If you have questions, please contact Tracee at momfourmany@yahoo.com or 614-313-4604.
Mission Year Round: We are still collecting boxes of Hamburger Helper for 200 Christmas meal packages; we have collected 75 boxes so far. If you are unable to shop and/or bring boxes in, we will also accept cash, check or on-line donations (HERE) to help us purchase this needed item.
Bottoms Up Diaper Bank: The need for diapers is real, as Bottoms Up Diaper Bank is distributing approximately 85,000 diapers monthly to community partners. You will make a great impact on this need by volunteering, contributing money, encouraging others, or sharing the need with friends and family members. Please contact Beth Snoke at beth@bottomsup.life or (614) 554-5664 if you can help. www.bottomsup.life.
Groveport Food Pantry: URGENTLY needed items this week include: Cans of Tuna; Saltine Crackers; Progresso/Chunky Soups; Sloppy Joe Sauce; Hamburger Helper; Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix; Stuffing Mix; and Chicken/Beef Raman Noodles. We will also need volunteers to help out the Groveport Pantry (595 Cherry St.) on November 21 from 3-6 pm.
Ashville Food Pantry: Volunteers are needed to help distribute food at the Ashville Food Pantry (20 Church Street) on Monday, November 25th (9:30-12:30). Thank you to everyone that volunteers to help out and a very special thank you to Ron for coordinating and distributing food donations to the pantries.
Community Food Pantries: Non-perishable food is always welcome and will be split and distributed between Groveport and Canal Winchester food pantries. Please try to avoid glass jars.
New Life Community Outreach: Always needed items: men’s deodorant, rolls of paper table cloth, blankets, and gently used jeans, hoodies and sweatshirts. Donations can be dropped off at Hopewell.
Homebound Ministry: If you are interested in an outreach to visit and provide fellowship and Communion to homebound individuals, please reach out to Pastor Wendy.
Pastor Work Days: Pastor Wendy is typically available at Hopewell most Monday’s and Thursday’s. Please call or text 614-561-3471 if you’d like to schedule an appointment or drop off donation items.
Bible Study: You are invited to join the weekly Bible Study (typically held at 7 pm on Tuesday evenings on Zoom. The scripture for the following Sunday is studied. Contact Pastor Wendy at pastorwendyhs@gmail.com for the meeting link; she can also provide technical assistance for those needing help using Zoom. Friends are welcome too!
Sunday School: Sunday School classes are held each Sunday morning at 9:30 am. Raymond leads the adult (Crusader’s) class and Mary Jane leads a class for children/youth. Thanks, Raymond & Mary Jane.
Nursery Volunteers: We are looking for a rotation of volunteers to serve in the newly remodeled nursery. Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to serve in this capacity. All persons who work with kids have to complete safe sanctuary training and a background check prior to serving. The intent behind Safe Sanctuary is to protect children and adults and to train adults in how to respond should they suspect or be informed that a child or dependent adult is being abused. Please contact Pastor Wendy to schedule a time to attend a one hour training session.
